Launch of the first Franco-Canadian conference on competitive intelligence to promote cooperation and growth.

SAVE THE DATE – Thursday, October 27th and Friday, October 28th, 2011 – Saint-Pierre and Miquelon – Community Hall

The Chamber of Agriculture, Commerce, Industry, and Craft Trade  of Saint-Pierre and Miquelon, chaired by Mr Xavier BOWRING, is organizing the first Franco-Canadian conference on competitive intelligence to promote cooperation and growth.

This event is organized in partnership with the Prefecture of St-Pierre and Miquelon, the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, the French Chamber of Commerce in Canada – Atlantic Network, and the Assembly of French Chambers of Commerce and Industry.

This event is geared towards a wide array of participants, including the business community, the public service, academia as well as organizations involved in economic, social and cultural development. As the first of its kind, this conference will be quite exceptional. The French and Canadian governments are working hand in hand to support this initiative. As a result, it will bring together a number of French and Canadian experts, decision makers and field specialists. Their role will be to discuss the various topics set forth in the 4 modules below, and determine steps for future meetings. This first conference will take place at the Saint-Pierre Community Hall on October 27th and 28th:

Module 1 – Competitive intelligence and cooperation
Experts and professionals will define the concept and its applications for both the private and the public sectors, demonstrating the value of this approach in the strengthening and enhancement of cooperation.

Module 2 – Competitive intelligence and human resources
An overview of the current state of employment and skills management in SPM and Atlantic Canada will be provided through the sharing of experiences, analyses and strategies. Professionals will also discuss the link between strategic skills management and economic development, with a view to outlining a development plan relevant to both partners.

Module 3 – Competitive intelligence and trade
Canadian and French experts and field specialists will share their insights on this matter, and explain how to manage international calls for tender and incorporate international legislation (i.e. sanitary conditions and market access) in order to derive the greatest benefits. This will lead up to a presentation of the Canada/Europe Free Trade Agreement and its implications.

Module 4 – New areas of implementation of competitive intelligence
Sustainable tourism, its challenges and potential for economic and social development will be the topic of this module. Shared experiences will illustrate the role of culture in development strategies.

The first Franco-Canadian conference on competitive intelligence to promote cooperation and growth will be concluded by a roundtable aiming at highlighting and discussing joint Franco-Canadian approaches and identifying common-interest initiatives (training, jobs and skills, economic and social watch, initiative and business development platforms, innovation strategies), to be developed and implemented with the approval of the Joint Commission for Regional Cooperation.
